The sixteenth tour of the '70s is the most represented tour officially & by the bootleggers, with every show [bar the first show] being recorded & released - at least partially - from the soundboard by one of them. This tour was also the tour that Elvis reverted back to the jumpsuits, and most of them were worn for the first time during the tour. The tour kicked off in Huntsville with five shows over three days. Elvis debuted four new suits during the five shows. They were: Silver (first & fourth show), Red (third show) & Black Phoenix (fifth show) suits & Indian Feather suit (second show). The highlights of these shows were The Wonder Of You, Burning Love, T-R-O-U-B-L-E, The Wonder Of You, An American Trilogy & Why Me Lord?, and the shows included rare songs such as That's All Right, Trouble, For The Good Times, Little Darlin', I Can't Stop Lovin' You, I'm Leavin', Release Me & I'll Remember You. The second stop of the tour was in Mobile with two shows on one day. The shows continued to be fantastic and highlights of these two shows were Little Darlin', Mystery Train, Bridge Over Troubled Water & I'll Remember You. Stop three was one show in Tuscaloosa's University Of Alabama with Elvis in the Red Phoenix suit and singing a similar setlist as the previous shows on this tour. Houston were treated to two shows in as many days on the 4th & 5th June. The shows still had a similar setlist but the energy was there during all the shows. It was onto Dallas on the 6th for one show in the Memorial Auditorium, with Elvis in the Black Phoenix suit. Shreveport was the next stop for an afternoon and evening show with How Great Thou Art, Funny How Time Slips Away, If You Love Me (Let Me Know) & An American Trilogy being among the highlights of the two shows. Elvis & the band were in Jackson for the next two days (8th & 9th) with two shows on the first day and one on the second. Elvis wore the Black & Silver Phoenix suits during these shows, with the Black version being worn at the first & third show. During the first show there were a lot of flies around the stage, and Elvis can be heard commenting on them during the show. At the last show Elvis sang a great version of Help Me Make It Through The Night. The last day of the tour - 10th June - Elvis was back home in Memphis for his penultimate show in his hometown (his last show there would be just over a year later). Wearing the Indian Feather Suit he gave a fantastic performance in front of his home crowd, singing songs such as If You Love Me (Let Me Know), Burning Love, Fairytale, T-R-O-U-B-L-E, Let Me Be There & Mystery Train-Tiger Man, and also introducing his father & Dr Nick to the audience. A great end to a great tour! |

31st December 1975 was a historic show in many ways for Elvis and his fans. This was the first time that Elvis had performed on New Years Eve show since 1955 and this show would become the highest attended Elvis concert EVER! There were some problems with the stage set up that Elvis wasnt happy with, such as the TCB band and Orchestra being on a different level to him and the sound system set up being atrocious. The most noticeable when they were performing My Way and Elvis had to stop half way through as he couldnt hear the band and got lost on the timing. He also didnt know the lyrics to the song Auld Lang Syne and mumbled along with the crowd at midnight. There was also an unfortunate incident while performing Polk Salad Annie when Elvis ripped his pants and had to leave the stage to change his jumpsuit. He came on stage wearing the Rainfall suit but when he split his pants he went to change into the V-Neck suit with Puff Sleeves while J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet performed Sweet Sweet Spirit. Just before the end of the show the 60,000 plus in the Pontiac Silver dome that night were treated to an excerpt of Wooden Heart. |
